Produced the Whitney Museum’s virtual world, on the web and Apple Vision Pro. Its first work, Twin Quasar, is in the Whitney’s collection.
The IMC Lab produced the Whitney Museum’s virtual world, the museum’s space for convening, conversation and exhibitions, open online at any time and in Apple Vision Pro through the MONA Museum app. The Whitney describes it as “a virtual world produced by The IMC Lab on the MONA platform.” Its first project was Ashley Zelinskie’s Twin Quasar, which the Whitney commissioned for its artport website and lists in the museum’s collection (AP.2024.2).

The virtual landscape launched in June 2023, created by Design Bridge and hosted on Mozilla Hubs. The new version, produced by James Tunick and The IMC Lab, moved it to MONA: the lab built the lobby, the event space and Twin Quasar’s world in Unity and published them to the web.
Twin Quasar
Twin Quasar (2024) is a three-dimensional artwork and space in the Whitney Museum Virtual Landscape. The work uses two pieces from the Whitney Museum’s collection, László Moholy-Nagy’s painting Space Modulator (1938–1940) and Rosalind Bengelsdorf Browne’s watercolor Compotier II (1938), as sources and turns them into navigable 3D models. The experience replicates the effects of gravitational lensing.
It is best experienced on a desktop device, and can also be experienced in the Apple Vision Pro through the MONA Museum app.
